Description

Explore the Channel Islands and discover the beauty of the region, commonly referred to as the “Galapagos of the North”. This marine program begins at the world renowned Marine Science Institute at University of California Santa Barbara. Students will spend two days on campus taking part in engaging marine activities that prepare them for their upcoming expedition to the Southern Channel Islands. Based in Emerald Bay on Catalina, students will learn about this biodiversity hotspot and practice the skills and methods used by real scientists to understand it! Get up close and personal with the diverse marine life of the channels by studying the tiniest of microscopic plankton to the massive humpback whale. Hike the islands to see the unique natural history of Catalina and San Clemente. Get hands-on experience with the wild and beautiful world of marine invertebrates. Combining marine biology, oceanography, zoology, and island ecology with fun activities like snorkeling and kayaking makes this a truly unforgettable adventure. Jump in today!
